A hot topic during most brand consultations with m A hot topic during most brand consultations with my clients revolves around the pros and cons of using an on trend typeface.

What defines "on trend" can really vary between industry and their target audience.

I also truly believe the rules around having a timeless brand identity can be a little flexible for smaller, independent businesses.

On average small businesses, particularly solopreneurs, are rebranding every 3-5 years, which is a much smaller time frame than your average corporate co. That isn't always because their logo is dated but because they have evolved their services, level of work or even individually so using an on trend style isn't necessarily a no-no.

The above font style of serif although utterly gorgeous is also super popular at the moment, despite the fact old-style serif fonts have been around since the mid 1400's. What makes a font style that's hundred of years old on trend? The same with fashion, a new take on an old style combined with a sweeping wave in its use.

The pros include:
- Having a fresh, modern looking brand
- Instantly having an aspirational brand appeal

The cons include:
- The *potential* risk of your logo looking dated quickly
- Alienating your ideal client

Whether an on trend font style is right for your brand is a discussion to have with your Designer, there isn't a one size fits all rule. A Designer can breakdown the pro/ cons for you, your brand and ultimately, your ideal client and a good Designer will also gently guide in you the right direction.

On the subject of trends, I would like to go on record at this point to confirm I WILL be keeping my side part and me + my forehead are very happy about this decision 🙋🏻‍♀️

So instead, you’re getting the outtakes. Which I am fine with as the amount of love, time and thought that goes into both concepts I create initially is equal. ⠀

Can you guess the industry the client this icon was created for us in? ⠀

Designers, let 2021 be the year you say NO to:⠀
⠀
- Feeling nervous about client feedback⠀
- Spending too long hunting for version 6.3456 of an artwork file⠀
- Pulling your hair out trying to understand a font license⠀
- Scrolling Instagram and comparing yourself to other Designers⠀
- Staring aimless at your screen unsure on the right way to reply to an email⠀
- Projects that don't fill your heart with joy ⠀
⠀
Instead, let 2021 be the year you:⠀
⠀
- Have seamless, effortless systems⠀
- Change your mindset on client feedback⠀
- Hear client's shouting your name from virtual rooftops in happiness⠀
- Reach your idea of success, whatever that may mean for you⠀
- Set your design business up to allow you to actually enjoy your life⠀

⭐ Monday Mantra ⭐ A reoccurring topic w ⭐ Monday Mantra ⭐

A reoccurring topic with the incredible Designers I've mentored recently. We're often so focused on delivering the end results to our clients and making them happy, we forget we became Designers because we love to *design* and start to feel jaded by the day-to-day.

We forget to find joy in the rough drafts, the sketches, the typography tweaks, the back and forth of moving something by a mm until it's right, the signing along to our favourite songs whilst we experiment with colour, the *designing*.

Our clients being happy is the best feeling, but remember to find joy in the process.
